Running as a preventive measure
Running has several health benefits. They include:
* Strengthens the bones
*Tones up the muscles
*Works up the heart
*may help prevent future knee replacement surgery
But before you start running,
*Talk to a physiotherapist (some of the reasons for this include but not limited to: know if you are fit to engage in running, to prescribe the appropriate strengthening exercises for you if need be)
*Avoid running if your hip or knee or ankle hurts
*Ensure you have the proper footwear, go for a good quality firm comfortable running shoes
*Start slowly
*Running on a firm flat grassy surface is better
