Reducing the risk factors of dementia
To reduce your chances of developing dementia:
- Take good care of your heart – treatment of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity is necessary for good heart health and is likely also to protect brain health.
- Increase your physical activity level to the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended 30 minutes a day for adults
- Eat a healthy Mediterranean-style diet, high in omega 3, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats – found in fish and olive oil.
- Limit your intake of saturated and trans fats, which are often found in take-away meals and sweets.
